Hawaiian Airlines to fly Haneda-Honalulu?

Good news for Tokyo-based Hawaiians (or Hawaii-based Tokyo-ites): Hawaii Airlines announced today that they’ve gotten a tentative green light from the United States Department of Transportation to fly its first route to Japan. While the details are not finalized, the proposed flight would see a midnight departure from Haneda with a next day landing at noon in Hawaii.

Of course it’s not just Hawaiians that can take advantage of this flight once it’s in place. Given the strength of the Japanese yen over the past year or so, it’s a decent time to take a trip outside of Japan if you haven’t left in a while. While traveling within Japan is lots of fun too, try to take advantage of favorable currency exchange rates when you plan a trip to another country.

And if you’re going to America, you can’t do much better than Hawaii!

Update: Looks like Delta Airlines got the go ahead as well for two new routes between the US and Haneda Airport, according to the company’s website. Delta’s CEO says that the move will “increase competition and enhance customer benefits [as well as] create jobs and boost local economies”.
