Mori Building Co., Ltd has announced that its colossal development project that bestrides the Toranomon and Azubadai districts of Tokyo will be named “Azabudai Hills.”
Previously labouring under the cumbersome title of the Toranomon-Azabudai Category 1 Urban Development Project, the new official name follows in the company’s tradition of branding projects with the “hills” title. Previous large-scale developments that have utilized the name include Roppongi Hills and Toranomon Hills.
The developer’s concept is for the vast 8.1-hectare site to serve as a “modern urban village” situated between the “cultural heart” of Tokyo in Roppongi and the global business hub of Toranomon Hills.
Due to be completed in 2023, the JPY580 billion complex will have more than 861,000 square meters of floor space, including nearly 214,000 square meters of office space and around 1,400 high-end residential units. The focus of the development will be the soaring, 330-meter high A District Tower.
Initial tenants will include Aman Residences, the first hotel in the world with the Janu brand, The British School in Tokyo and a number of museums, including the Mori Building Digital Art Museum.
In keeping with the “village” theme, Mori Building is keen to play up the green credentials of Azabudai Hills, with fully 24,000 square meters of the site devoted to greenery and a vast central square. The developer is also underlining its commitment to wellness, with the site incorporating a spa, fitness clubs and even vegetable gardens.
Significantly, 100 percent of the electricity supplied to the entire district will come from renewable sources, the company says, making it one of the largest WELL certified projects in the world.
