The Kita (ザ・キタ) is a five-storey residential building with two basement levels at 3-12-1 Sendagaya, Shibuya-ku, developed by Vancouver-based Westbank and designed by Kengo Kuma and Associates. Completed in July 2020, it has 12 residences: eleven apartments and maisonettes plus one multi-level penthouse. The building is in the Kitasando area, a six-minute walk from Kitasando Station on the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line.

*Design and construction*
Kuma's office designed the exterior and interiors. Matsushita Sangyo built the reinforced concrete structure between 2018 and 2020, with a total floor area of 4,514 m². The main elevation is screened with treated metal louvres, so residents can see out while the interiors stay hidden from the street. Envelope rules set the upper floors back, and those setbacks are terraces. On the lower floors, four residences are two-storey maisonettes arranged around a light well lined with a stone wall and bamboo.

*Services and residences*
The building has a bilingual concierge, auto-lock entry and lifts. The private lift lobbies on the second and third floors are Taschen library lounges with books on art, architecture and Japanese culture. There is on-site parking, storage rooms are available for a separate charge, and pets are permitted subject to building rules. The rooftop infinity pool and tea room belong to the penthouse, The Kita Tea House, and are not shared.

Handmade paper covers bedroom walls and ceilings, and the residences use Italian stone, bespoke stainless steel kitchen cabinetry and timber blinds. The smallest recorded residence is a 123.96 m² two-bedroom on the third floor. Each maisonette is approximately 90 tsubo (about 297 m²), and the three-bedroom plan has three bathrooms plus two guest WCs. The penthouse spans three levels, and its two private terraces and roof deck make up roughly half its area.

The Kita is on a side street off Meiji-dori. On foot, Kitasando Station (Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line) is six minutes away, Harajuku Station (JR Yamanote Line) 11 minutes, Sendagaya Station (JR Chuo-Sobu Line) 12 minutes and Yoyogi Station (JR Yamanote Line) 13 minutes. Meiji Jingu's wooded grounds are to the west, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden to the north-east and Kuma's Japan National Stadium to the east. The address is in the school zones for Sendagaya Elementary School and Harajuku Gaien Junior High School.
