On February 17, 2023, The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has announced that it will approve private construction for the Jingu Gaien Area Type 1 Urban Redevelopment Project planned in the Jingu Gaien area. This project is a significant undertaking that will transform the Jingu Gaien area into a world-class destination. With its futuristic architecture and state-of-the-art facilities, it aims to provide a unique experience to sports enthusiasts and visitors to the city by redeveloping major sports facilities such as the National Stadium (Baseball Stadium) and Chichibunomiya Rugby Stadium.

Led by Mitsui Fudosan, the new area will house sports facilities, offices, retail outlets, lodging, and parking areas. The entire construction period is scheduled to be from 2023 to 2035, and the building will be put into service and used in phases. The Baseball Stadium, which was opened in 1926, will be the first building to be demolished. The 28-hectare project will involve switching the current baseball and rugby stadium locations, adding tennis courts to Meiji Jingu Gaien park, and constructing two high-rise buildings that will be 38 and 40 stories tall.

Though the final decision on the preservation of the greenery in the redevelopment area is yet to be made, according The Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the developers have committed in writing to preserve the four rows of ginkgo trees and will prioritize transplanting trees rather than cutting them down during the construction project and adjusting the design when necessary.
