Sapporo to Welcome New Luxury Hotels by Hyatt and Marriott International
The city of Sapporo is undergoing several developments to enhance its appeal to visitors, including a bid to host the 2030 Sapporo Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. One of the key initiatives is the introduction of new luxury hotels to cater to both local and international tourists.
Hyatt Centric Sapporo, the first of its kind, is set to open in the spring of 2024, signifying Hyatt’s focus on expanding its lifestyle brand portfolio in the Asia Pacific region. The hotel is located in close proximity to one of Hokkaido’s most iconic landmarks, the historic Akarenga-chosha, which was formerly the government office of Hokkaido. It is also a mere 10-minute walk away from the centrally located JR Sapporo station, making it an ideal location for both leisure and business travelers.
New Tower building and Marriott International brand hotel (35F~40F) will open in 2028 beside JR Tower.
Marriott International, a major U.S. hotel company, will open a luxury brand hotel in the building complex to be opened in front of Sapporo Station by JR Hokkaido and the city of Sapporo. The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, and EDITION are some of the world’s best-known brands that will be attracted to the Sapporo Station complex to enhance Sapporo’s ability to accommodate foreign tourists. The opening of the luxury hotels are expected to raise the level of Sapporo’s image and improve the customer base.
The New Shinkansen routes between Shin-Hakodate Hokuto and Sapporo set to Open in 2030
The Sapporo extension of the Hokkaido Shinkansen will provide excellent access to Hakodate, Niseko and Sapporo. Construction of the approximately 212-km line between Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto and Sapporo was approved and started in 2012, and is scheduled to open at the end of fiscal year 2030. JR Hokkaido has announced that it aims to operate from Tokyo to Sapporo in 4.5 hours. However, the final travel time has yet to be determined. It is expected that the opening of the Shinkansen will trigger active exchanges between the Tohoku region, the Tokyo metropolitan area, the northern Kanto region, and other regions.
The Caress Memorial Hospital Scheduled to Open in 2025 April
All rooms will be private rooms, and the hospital will offer the latest medical care that actively utilizes medical robots and AI. The area is within walking distance from Sapporo Station and is expected to become more vibrant in the future as the population increases with the construction of condominiums within a 500m radius of the planned site.
Sapporo Station Area Emerges as Hotspot for Real Estate Investment
Overall, the construction of condominiums, hotels, and hospitals in close proximity to Sapporo Station will undoubtedly increase the appeal of Sapporo. In fact, demand for rentals in the city is rising steadily in line with these developments; the number of foreign guests is also steadily increasing.
From an investment perspective, rents and land prices are expected to increase, including rentals, private accommodations, and office space. For real estate investors, Sapporo’s impressive growth outlook will present attractive investment opportunities.
